Obesity is is a branch of surgery for the treatment of obesity. Surgery is performed when being overweight reduces quality of life and cannot be managed with standard methods such as exercise and diet.

Especially, patients between 18 and 60 years of age may undergo this operation. There are several conditions for patients to undergo operation.

There are two types:

  • Diseases of the heart and blood vessels – increased stress on the heart, the risk of heart attacks, strokes, detection of hypertension, atherosclerosis and other pathologies.
  • Deterioration of the respiratory system, which leads to frequent colds, fatigue, insufficient oxygen supply to tissues.
  • Endocrine disorders – diabetes mellitus, problems in the functioning of the sex glands, masculine changes in appearance in women, and effeminate changes in men.
  • Diseases of the digestive system – especially the liver and gallbladder. Appear cholecystitis, cholelithiasis, cholesterol levels.
  • Oncological diseases. So the percentage of cases of cancer of the mammary glands and prostate is higher in patients with overweight people. They are more likely to be diagnosed with cancer of the intestines, kidneys, stomach.
  • Diseases of the musculoskeletal system – due to the load on the spine and joints. In addition, an unfavorable level of physical activity leads to weakening of the muscles, impaired blood circulation in them, and this worsens the nutrition of bone and cartilage tissues. Degenerative-dystrophic diseases appear – osteoporosis, arthritis, arthrosis and others.
